Katarina started skating ice at the age of five. The talent she displayed soon became apparent and she was accepted to a private school that caters for kids with a flair for sport in Karl-Marx-Stadt. In this school she met the teacher Jutta Muler. Witt was able to make her mark in the year 1982 when she was second in the World Championships at Copenhagen. Her graceful and elegant style caught everyone's attention at that time, and from then onwards she was dominating the competition. Olympic success Katarina Wit took home gold in ice skating for women at Sarajevo Winter Games 1984. Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a fiercely competitive competition. Four years later, that she was able to claim an additional intense race. Although she lost in the competition for free skating, the gold medal was awarded to her performance on the compulsory figures as well as the short program. Witt competed at the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. Although she didn't get a single medal she enchanted fans despite the fact that she finished seventh. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame on the 15th of April, 1995.
